Jim Baldwin-Brown is a postdoc in the Phadnis and Shapiro laboratories. has studied the differentiation of sites of selection in independently evolving populations from both a simulation-driven and empirical perspective using a variety of organisms, including vernal pool shrimp and pigeon lice.  He has also contributed to genomics in non-model organisms, identifying more efficient ways to generate high quality genome assemblies with limited data. He is now using Hi-C conformation capture techniques to understand changes in chromosome pairing in interspecies hybrids to attempt to understand the genomic features that drive chromosome pairing in all organisms.
