Jacob Cooper, Graduate Student

Jacob’s research focuses on the cellular and molecular basis of hybrid incompatibility. He is investigating the ways in which fundamental cell cycle genes evolve to prevent hybridization between D. melanogaster and D. simulans. This model provides tools in molecular biology and cell biology to focus on addressing the specific mechanisms that underline hybrid incompatibility. Jacob’s work is currently funded by the University of Utah Developmental Biology Training Grant .
